Toyota MR2 Whipped up as a Lamborghini Murcielago Replica [w/Videos]

In the colorful and imaginative world of clone cars, the Toyota MR2 is commonly used as a donor model for Ferrari replicas of all sorts, from 360 Modena Coupes and Spiders to Enzo hypercars, but once in a rare while, Maranello's archrival Lamborghini also comes into the picture.

Such is the case of this eBay find from Albertville, Alabama, with a 1991 Toyota MR2 being sacrificed to give birth to a Lamborghini Murcielago replica.

The countdown for the grand opening of the 2012 edition of the annual automotive aftermarket extravaganza known as the SEMA Show has begun. In less than a week's time, the Las Vegas Convention Center will open its doors to thousands of tuned and custom concept and production cars.

Besides its own products, Toyo Tires plans to host four specially customized cars at its booth, including two proposals from Japan's Wald International that are making their debut on U.S. soil.

Even if you are inexperienced or not mechanically inclined, we doubt that any sane person would keep pressing on the pedal of an expensive Italian supercar with a smoking (in the literal sense) V12 engine, which is what we are allegedly seeing in this video.

What makes us skeptical about the clip is not only the comical stupidity of the Lamborghini Murcielago's driver and helpers, but also the fact that the Italian model is dressed in "Vodka" decals and that the user who uploaded the video on YouTube is called…"Ultrapremiumvodka" – viral, anyone?

The only sane reason we can think of why someone would take a Porsche Boxster and attempt a crude recreation of a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster is that the owner had a heavily damaged example of the Stuttgart-based carmaker's mid-engine model lying around and decided to get mechanically and cosmetically creative – or so to speak.

Regardless the reason that gave birth to the idea, the project remains unfinished despite changing several hands (we wonder why….). The person selling the car on eBay states that he was offered the Murcielago-stein as part of a trade deal.

After all those recent Ferrari accidents, it's time for Poland to claim a Lamborghini – a matte grey Murcielago, to be precise.

According to CarScoop tipster Adam, the accident took place in the center of Wroclaw, which is the largest city in western Poland, on Sunday afternoon.

It's not clear whether the driver of the Murcielago lost control of the Italian supercar or as some reports have suggested, that he...couldn't decide if he wanted to continue straight or go towards the tunnel. Either way, he smashed into the brick ledge destroying the car.

Over the years, we have seen the Toyota MR2 falling into the hands of numerous kit car makers who have used the Japanese sports model as a base for the creation of all sorts of replicas.

Among other clones, the mid-engine MR2 has been transformed into a Ferrari Enzo, a Ferrari 460 Modena Spider, a Ferrari F430 Spider, a strange looking creation from Japan called the DragStar F1 Dragon, a Gumpert Apollo and believe it or not, even a Ford Mustang Eleanor.

Exotic supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 are flashy, fast and of course, loud, sometimes too much for their own good, especially when their owners have opted for aftermarket goodies such as a more hardcore exhaust system to enhance their character.

Sure, most of us petrol heads wouldn't mind hearing the wonderful sounds of a howling V12 engine on the street, but that does not mean that others will or have to agree.

Usually, our eBay segments consist of Mercury Cougars covered in Bugatti livery or Peugeot 406's vaguely transformed into Ferrari F430's. This on the other hand, is for lack of a better word, pretty impressive.

This Lamborghini Murcielago clone is as close to the real thing in the looks department as we’ve ever seen from most replica models of the sort. Like any kit car though, there are a few downsides. For example, the performance numbers are not anywhere near close to the real thing.

You can't get a new Lamborghini Murcielago –at least not from the factory- but for those that already own the Aventador's predecessor, German tuner DMC has readied a new performance and styling program.

DMC says it starts by removing the V12 engine from the Italian supercar and performing a series of modifications that include among other things, the addition of 12 unique single intake throttle plates instead of 6, new gasoline pumps and lines, an ECU optimization and a custom exhaust system.

Not all supercar makers tend to the special requests of customers. Such was the case of a Chinese owner of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 who approached the Italian automaker in order to fit his car with the rear wing of a Murcielago LP670 SuperVeloce (SV).

Lamborghini denied the request, even though money was reportedly not the problem. The unnamed Chinese owner then approached German tuning firm DMC for a custom solution.

As strange as it may sound –pun intended- to us gearheads, there are some normal people out there that are not only indifferent about the acoustic properties of a Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640's screaming V12, but will also throw a fit if someone dares to rev the engine on a public street…

This episode took place on the busy streets of London when a by-stander asked the driver of Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 to rev the V12 engine for the camera.

Maybe you've seen it, maybe you've not, but we couldn't pass the opportunity to show you some additional footage from the Lamborghini Murcielago mishap that occurred back in March of 2009 in good ol' Beverly Hills.

The owner of the original video reposted it on Thursday after he found new footage of the accident, which to refresh your memory, involved the owner of the Murcielago losing control of the Italian supercar and smashing it into a palm tree on the median.

Nicknamed Optimus, the heavily modified Dodge Ram 3500 truck is powered by a twin turbocharged Cummins diesel engine that churns out a whopping 1,200 horsepower and an even more mind-blowing 2,000+ lb-ft (2,711Nm) of peak torque! A pretentious beast indeed.
