The Toyota J40 is the model designation for a Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series made from 1960 until 1984. Most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as two-door vehicles with slightly larger dimensions than a Jeep CJ. The base model J40/41/42 was a two-door short wheelbase four-wheel-drive vehicle. There were also a two-door medium wheelbase four-wheel-drive version and a long-wheelbase four-wheel-drive version. All came with either a soft or a hardtop.
The J40 was powered by either a 3.8L or a 4.2L I6 petrol engine (ie. the F engines that produced 105 hp and 135 hp respectively), or by a diesel engine from a range of 3.0L I4 to 3.7L I6. The 4-cylinder diesel engines were called the B engines. The 6-cylinder diesel engines were called the H engines. Model designations of FJ, BJ and HJ referred to the kind of engines under the hood.
In Brazil, the Toyota J40 was known as the Toyota Bandeirante. It was made by Toyota do Brasil Ltda from 1958 until 2001. (wikipedia)
