Volkswagen Announces New California Special Edition


At next month's Caravan Salon in the German city of Düsseldorf, Volkswagen will debut a new special edition version of its California camper van with the retractable canvas top inspired by the Multivan Edition25.

The cosmetic flourishes include a matte black finish for select trim pieces such as the new stripes on the doors, the lower part of the front bumper, the grille, the door handles and the roof, plus black headlamp bezels, and new alloy wheels.

New Model Year Brings BlueMotion Tech and 2.0 TSI to Volkswagen Transporter Series


Volkswagen's popular in Europe T5 van range, which includes the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California models, is being enhanced for the new model year with the addition of two new engine options, the 138Hp (140PS) 2.0 TDI with the fuel-saving BlueMotion technology package and the 2.0 TSI petrol.

Following on from the 83hp (84PS) 62 and 113hp (114PS) engine variants, the BlueMotion tech package that incorporates star/stop and brake energy recovery systems, low rolling resistance tires, and cruise control, is now available with the stronger 2.0-liter turbo diesel delivering 138hp (140PS) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft).

Hartmann "Primes" Up the Volkswagen T5 Van

VW Transporter California Doubleback is an Extendable Rolling Home on Wheels


We have seen many camper conversions based on Volkswagen's highly popular Transporter T5 vans but what makes this new offering from British firm Doubleback is the innovative extendable rear section.

All the driver needs to do is press a button and the rear end of the van almost doubles its size thanks to an electric slide out rear pod that adds close to 2 meters (~78 inches) to the length of the vehicle.
