Renault's South Korean Samsung Unit to Cut Jobs as it Tries to Tackle Falling Sales


It’s not only Europe that has Renault worried as the French automotive group is now having troubles in South Korea with its Samsung unit.

Renault Samsung said on Friday that it would launch its first ever voluntary redundancy programme in order to deal with falling sales both in its home market and abroad.

Nissan to Build Next Generation Rogue Crossover in South Korea as well as in the U.S. [Updated]


As it turns out, Nissan will split production of the new Rogue crossover between its Smyrna plant in Tennessee, USA, (starting from next year), and the Renault Samsung Motors factory in Busan, South Korea, (beginning in 2014).

Analysts believe that Nissan will benefit from a weak Korean won and recent free trade deals.

The French-Japanese firm said it will invest US$160 million (€130 million) to add 80,000 units of the Nissan Rogue production in Korea and "increase cost competitiveness of a key industrial base". The vehicles will be shipped to North America and select Asian countries.

Renault Introduces Talisman Flagship Saloon at the Auto China 2012


The Renault brand looked into its South Korean portfolio and more precisely Samsung to find a suitable flagship model to add to its lineup in China. What the French automaker found is the Samsung SM7 that was launched in its home market in the summer of 2011.

After swapping badges, the Talisman was born and it made its world premiere at this week's 2012 Beijing Auto Show. The Talisman is a China-only model and will be produced in Korea alongside the SM7.

Renault said it will be exported to China starting in mid-June 2012 with a base price of 318,800 RMB (€38,652 or US$50,400 ).

Renault Slaps its Badge on the Samsung SM7 and Calls it the New Talisman Sedan


The good thing about owning several brands across the world is that you can market the same products under different names, in different countries. Renault has done this several times with a number of Samsung and Dacia models and will continue the practice with its new Talisman sedan.

The French automaker released a single teaser image of the Talisman, which borrows its name from Renault's 2001 luxury concept car and will make its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show in China on April 23.
