Leaked Porsche 918 Spyder Brochure Tells us that a Blue Shade will Cost Buyers a Mere...$65,000

While most manufacturers do their best to hide their latest models from prying eyes before their official launch, Porsche has been quite forthcoming about its new supercar, the 918 Spyder.
In fact, it has already released a barrage of information, including the specifications of its 770+ HP hybrid powertrain and (provisional) performance figures: 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) comes in 3.2 seconds and top speed exceeds 320 km/h (199 mph).
Today, Porsche announced on its Facebook page that the 918 Spyder has lapped the Nordschleife in 7:14’. That's better than most supercars, including its Carrera GT predecessor and the Lexus LFA Nürburgring edition, but behind the "old" Dodge Viper ACR (7:12.13) as far as production models are concerned.

We had heard the rumors that Porsche was evaluating a PDK dual clutch transmission for the new 991-generation of its hardcore 911 GT3 in place of the traditional manual gearbox that has been around ever since the series was introduced in 1999, but now we have the first photographic proof of it.

A member of the Gearstage forums spotted prototypes of both the Porsche 918 Spyder and 911 GT3 somewhere in San Francisco, USA, and was able to get close enough to nab some pictures of the 991-series GT3's interior.

Are you tired of Porsche constantly teasing us about its next über-sports car, the 918 Spyder, which apart from being über-expensive is also a year away from production? Even if the answer is yes, you may find the video that follows below the jump interesting…

While Evo magazine’s MD Harry Metcalfe has already taken the right seat of the 918 at the Nardo track, that car was an early prototype, with almost no bodywork.

This time, he found himself on the passenger’s seat of a complete car at the Nordscheife. What’s more, the man sitting behind the wheel is none other than 1980 and 1982 World Rally Champion Walter Röhrl.

More importantly, they were able to get up close and shoot the first pictures of the German supercar's interior.

Spied: The Sounds of the Porsche 918 Spyder from the Nürburgring

We are not exactly sure how one of our commentators concluded that "When you lead with 'goes for a spin on the Ring' It leads one to believe a video is available" in regards to our previous spy story on the Porsche 918 Spyder, but nevertheless, we'll try to satisfy his request with two freshly shot videos from the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

If we're not hugely mistaken, this is the first time we've heard the pre-production prototype of the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder in action.

Spy Shots: Porsche 918 Spyder Wears its Martini Outfit and Goes for a Spin on the 'Ring

Porsche sure knows how to grab our attention with the 918 Spyder. After the matte black with white racing stripes prototype, which harked back to the iconic Porsche 917 racers of the 1970s, the German firm's engineers outfitted a pre-production model with colorless Martini livery.

Perhaps Porsche's objection with the new dressing was to divert our attention from what really matters about this test car and which is the new aerodynamic add-ons in the form of cannards positioned on all four corners of the 918 Spyder.

Spy Shots: Porsche 918 Spyder Snagged Topless, Plus Full-Specs, Turns the 'Ring in Under 7:22

Only a few days after Porsche released an official set of images of the pre-production 918 Spyder, our spies sent in new photos of the plug-in hybrid supercar, this time testing with its top down.

The new crown jewel of the Porsche lineup features a targa top solution with a pair of detachable carbon fiber roof panels that can be stored in the front luggage compartment and a small windowpane located between the flying buttresses.

The pre-production prototype is finished in a matte black color with white stripes that harks back to historical Porsche 917 racing cars.

Surprisingly, Porsche is not keeping a lot of secrets from us having revealed initial specifications on the 918 Spyder. The spiritual successor of the 959 from the 1980s, of which only a little over 330 units were produced, and the Carrera GT from the mid-2000s (1,270 built), sports a full carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) body bolted to a carbon-fiber tub.
