While we have no problem replacing everyday products such as DVD players and cell phones with new ones once they go bad, if the same thing happens to our car, it's a whole different story, and rightfully so, since automobiles are the second largest investment in most single family households.

Cars tend to be much more complex than most household appliance and face seriously more adverse conditions day-in, day-out. No matter how good the car is or how much carefully you maintain it, at some point, something is bound to go wrong.

Thus, the fact that it offers the M5 with a manual gearbox, too, may not sound like a big deal.

If it were for an everyday car, no one would probably care, but here we’re talking about the 2013 M5, the super saloon that ticks most boxes in a car enthusiast’s list.

It’s got supercar-matching performance thanks to the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8's 560HP, it’s rear-wheel drive, the electronic nannies can be fully disengaged if you so wish, and as an added bonus, it’s as practical as any mid-size saloon, so you can use it as an everyday car and even give it to the Miss's, too.

In 2001, BMW launched a hugely successful campaign called "The Hire", which was a series of eight short films, each roughly eight to ten minutes long.

The movies were directed by established filmmakers like Ang Lee and the late John Frankenheimer, with actor Clive Owen taking on the role of the "Driver" who was hired by a different person in each movie to transport important people in a number of BMW cars.

While over a decade old now, BMW's film series remains wonderfully entertaining to this day.

BMW M5 Passenger Steals a Porsche 911 at a Gas Station

You never know when a thief will come knocking on your door to steal your car - or anything else for that matter, but you sure shouldn't make it easier for crooks by leaving your prized possession unguarded, unlocked and…with the keys in the ignition.

Even more so when said possession is a Porsche 911 coupe in an attention grabbing yellow shade.

We are not sure where this incident took place, though the BMW M5 E39 sedan that pulled over next to the Porsche 911 at the gas station and from which the thief came out of, looks like it may be wearing a German license plate from Aachen (AC).

BMW Warns 2013 M5 and M6 Owners to Stop Driving Their Cars

You would think BMW would want owners of the latest iterations of the M5 sedan and M6 Coupe and Convertible models to have a blast with their cars – and you're right, it does, just only after it makes a fix to certain 2013MY vehicles sold in the States.

A safety bulletin issued by BMW of North America and released to the world for all to see by the folks over at the F10 M5 Post forums, reveals that the Bavarian automaker came to know of a problem with the S63TU 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in the 2013MY M5 and M6 cars.

In the world of performance sedans, the Germans don't have a lot of enemy fronts to shatter as the only notable rivals from foreign automakers are the Cadillac CTS-V and the Jaguar XF-R (S), but they're still attacking the segment with lots of force.

What do they have is a lot of internal competition, sometimes even within their own house (i.e. M3 Sedan, M5 Sedan).

Rare 1989 BMW M3 Convertible and 1993 M5 Touring for Sale in the U.S.

A Cincinnati, Ohio-based dealership has listed two rare, if not unique since neither was officially imported in the United States, BMW models, including a 1989 M3 Convertible and a 1993 M5 Touring, but you better be willing to dig deep into your wallet if you are interested.

According to the Enthusiast Auto Group dealer, both cars were imported to the States from Europe and are said to be fully street legal.

We will start our tour with the E30 M3 Convertible, of which only 786 are believed to have been produced from mid-1988 to mid-1991.

This example is from 1989 and it is powered by a 2.3-liter naturally-aspirated inline four, though we're not sure if it’s in non-catalyst (197HP /200PS) or catalyst (192HP / 195PS) form.

The mileage on the red-colored soft top is 66,980 (107,770 kilometers) while the price is listed at a hefty $65,990 (€52,400).

A Very Quick First Look at the 2013 BMW M5's 6-Speed Manual Gearbox

BMW did manual-gearbox fans in the U.S. a favor by adding the option on its latest 2013 M5 F10 saloon as a no-cost alternative to the standard 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT).

The announcement was made in January with the first examples now arriving in select BMW showrooms across the States.

A member of the M5Post forums named "Jason" searched and found a manual-transmission-equipped 2013 M5 at a local dealer who gave him some time behind the wheel.

From the moment BMW decided to place the M badge on its 5-Series sedan back in the mid-1980s, the M5 immediately created its own niche in the executive saloon segment. In fact, it become so popular that many the Bavarian firm's rivals followed its example in the years that came after the original M5's launch.

Perhaps one of the more surprising challengers was GM's Cadillac CTS-V, the first generation of which was presented in 2004 before it was replaced by the current model in 2008.

Kelleners Sport Turns the Wick on the BMW M5 F10 with 651HP KS5-5

The most powerful production version of the BMW M5 series ever, the new M5 F10, has formed the base for the creation of the fastest Kelleners Sport-tuned model ever.

Named the KS5-5, the BMW M5 converted by Kelleners Sport gains a power kit with unspecified mods for the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that lift output from 553hp (560PS) to 651hp (660PS) and peak torque from 680Nm (501 lb-ft) to 790Nm (583 lb-ft).

BMW M Club Drivers Crash Into Each Other on Moscow Streets

A pleasurable drive on the city streets of Moscow, Russia, turned into a nightmare for several members of a local BMW M Club this past Saturday, after a number of cars crashed into each other.

Video footage from one of the cars involved in the accident as well as from another, unrelated vehicle discovered online (3rd clip, skip to 1:06), shows that the pileup occurred when the driver of a blue E34 M5 sedan turned on his blinker and veered towards the right lane at the same time that a mustard-colored E46 M3 Coupe was coming from behind.

As a result, the driver of the M3 lost control and smashed into the BMW with the camera (reportedly the blue E90 M3 sedan), which was then rear-ended by a 1-Series M Coupe.

BMW Details and Puts a Price on UK Market M3 and M5 M Performance Editions

Following a teaser video that previewed the M Performance Editions of the M3 Coupe and M5 Sedan posted earlier this month, BMW has now released detailed information and pricing for its limited run models that were created exclusively for the UK market.

Only thirty examples of each model will be available with on-the-road pricing set at £74,080 (US$115,500) for the M3 M Performance Edition and £95,140 (US$148,400) for the M5 M Performance Edition. Both cars are on sale now.

G-Power Celebrates Production of 100th Hurricane with 819hp Special Edition M5

With its tuned BMWs costing as much as a family house, selling 100 examples of its flagship Hurricane models is no mean feat for a company like G-Power.

To mark the production milestone, the BMW tuning guru has introduced a special edition version of the E60-based M5 Hurricane RR that benefits from a 30-horsepower boost, which lifts the total output of the heavily-reworked and twin-supercharged 5.0-liter V10 from 789hp (800PS) to 819hp (830PS).

BMW M5 F10 Versus Some of the Best Sports Cars in the World

If you are thirsty for some BMW M5 F10 action, the fans over at the M5Board forums have you more than covered with multiple videos of the 560-horsepower, twin-turbocharged V8 saloon competing against some of the most capable sports cars in the world.

In no particular order, we see the F10 M5 challenging a Porsche 997, a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, a Porsche Panamera Turbo S, an Audi RS6 V10, a Corvette Z06, a G-Power BMW M3 and even the previous M5 E60.

Double M: BMW Prepares M Performance Editions of M3 Coupe and M5 Sedan

We get it that BMW wants to leave no stone unturned when it comes to serving its customers, but we must admit that introducing M Performance variants of its M brand cars makes about as much sense as buttering both sides of your toast.

"Our new BMW M Performance Models are geared toward customers looking for high performance for everyday use," are the words BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer used to describe the M Performance sub-brand.

BMW M5 E60 V10 is No Match for New M5 F10 V8 Turbo

There's something exotically special about a V10-powered saloon like the previous generation BMW M5 (E60), but even though its successor has two less cylinders, it more than compensates for the loss with the addition of a pair of turbochargers when it comes to speed.

As always, the numbers don't lie: the E60 M5's 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V10 churns out 500hp (507PS) and a peak torque of 520Nm (428 lb-ft), while the newer F10 M5's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, 552hp (560PS) from 6,000 to 7,000rpm and a maximum torque of 680Nm (502 lb-ft) from 1,500 rpm to 5,750rpm.
