EVO Tries Out Aston Martin’s New Vantage V12 Roadster

It has taken Aston Martin no less than three years to roll out the open-top version of the V12-engined Vantage.

Given that other roadsters, like the Ferrari 458 and McLaren MP4-12C Spiders, which use much more advanced tops than the canvas unit employed by the Aston Martin model, hit the market not long after their coupe versions, this is quite a long time.

Aston Martin Lifts the Top on New V12 Vantage Roadster with 510hp

Some three years after the introduction of the V12 Vantage Coupe in 2009, Aston Martin has presented a roofless version of its sports car that joins the lesser Vantage and Vantage S V8 models.

There are no surprises under the hood with the range-topping Vantage Roadster using Aston Martin’s naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12 engine that generates 510hp (517PS) at 6,500 rpm and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of maximum torque at 5,750 rpm.

Coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox that directs power to the rear wheels, the V12 Vantage Roadster hits 100km/h (62mph) in 4.5 seconds, which makes it 0.3 seconds slower than the coupe. It's top speed, however, is the same at 305km/h (190mph).

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Design Concept by Narcis Mares is Simplistically Beautiful

Some designers like their cars to be complex and overly aggressive in their details while others prefer to keep things sleek and simple.

This Aston Martin V8 Vantage concept, which was sent to Carscoop by independent designer Narcis Mares, is one of those cars we would personally catalogue in the second group.

Mares says he drew his inspiration from several Aston Martins ranging from the British brand's brutish 1980s models to the more contemporary V12 Vanquish and V8 Vantage coupes, though we must say that we also see a hint of BMW Z4 on the supercar concept's profile.

New Aston Martin Zagato Promo, Now with Less Music and More V12 Sounds

Europeans will get their first real life glimpse at the final production version of the new Aston Martin V12 Zagato at the rapidly approaching Geneva Motor Show next week.

We've pretty much covered all topics surrounding the limited edition model designed by Italian choachbuilder Zagato of which only 150 units will be assembled, but we found a new promotional film to share with you.

While there's still some background music to be heard, it's far less disruptive than in Aston Martin's first film on the V12 Zagato allowing the sounds of the 12-cylinder engine to make it to your speakers. Head past the jump to watch the video.

'Q by Aston Martin' Offers New Personalization Options to Customers, Debuts in Geneva

After lending its name to several fictional characters including the scientific and engineering genius in the James Bond films as well the omnipotent god-like being in the Star Trek television series, the letter Q has now found a place in Aston Martin's range.

"Q by Aston Martin" is the British firm's new service that is said to bring the automaker's designers together with its engineers and craftspeople allowing customers to personalize their vehicles.

While the sample pictures of the customized Vantage Roadster and Cygnet hatchback released by Aston Martin suggest that this is the stuff we'd make fun of in our Offbeat section, it also shows the amount of personalization the company offers.

The service is for both the exterior and interior styling.

Aston Martin Vantage V8 Mildly Updated for 2012 with Bits and Pieces from the Vantage S

The time has come for Aston Martin to unveil the subtly facelifted Vantage V8 in what is being described by the British sports car maker as "the most comprehensive programme of enhancements since 2008".

However, what Aston Martin is really trying to tell us is that it has upgraded the base Vantage V8 with many of the improvements first seen on the Vantage S.

While the standard six-speed manual transmission remains, the optional six-speed Sportshift automated manual transmission has replaced with the seven-speed Sportshift II.
